Usually our first impressions about a country depend on what we see through a window of a train, a bus, an airplane or a car What is it that surprises most visitors to Belarus today, — especially those coming from the republics of the former USSR? The state of proper order! The soil is not deserted, neither overgrown with wild grass. All fields are under crop, cultivated and well looked after. Fattened cattle is tended at rich grasslands. Tractors are working, cars are hurriedly going somewhere Everybody is busy doing something. Belarusian village keeps going as well as the whole of the country.
And this is normal state of things. It’s just the way it should be.
During the days of the USSR Belarus used to be called an assembling workshop of the Soviet Union. The country, not possessing rich mineral resources, produced a wide range of goods, which were of demand in all fraternal nations. After the collapse of the great power, Belarus sparingly handled the wealth and industrial potential created over the decades. And over the period of its independence it did not only preserve, but also multiplied its national patrimony. Among the former USSR states Belarus was the first to surpass its Soviet-times economic achievements. Nowadays, Belarusian enterprises produce goods worth to be represented on foreign markets. A number of enterprises manufacture production, which meets most strict modern requirements.
However, today it is not enough just to produce high quality goods. Open economy, alongside with other market economy conditions determine new environment. In this view, it’s far more important to sell those goods. But what are the ways of reaching this goal? It is generally acknowledged, that among other marketing efforts the most effective is participation in exhibitions and trade fairs. Statistics reveals that up to 80% of all contracts are made here. But such participation, especially in exhibitions held abroad demands sufficient financial resources. Therefore, few enterprises can afford it. Moreover, the cost of such participation increases yearly. As a result, a lack of possibility to display the production in other countries, to inform about the potential do not contribute to the promotion of goods on foreign markets. In this light, Publishing house “Foreign Trade” came out with the initiative to issue catalogues of goods produced in the country and distribute them at exhibitions. We got an offer of assistance and support in distributing our catalogues from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Trade, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry
At the beginning of 2006 we published two first informative and representative catalogues “Made in Belarus”, in which about 500 enterprises of all forms of ownership were presented. But it’s only a little drop out of over 20 thousand enterprises of all forms of ownership, working in the country that are interested in establishing international contacts, as well as in the promotion of their production, goods and services on foreign markets.
Modern technologies, especially Internet, provide immediate access to information in any spot of the world and at any time. That’s why electronic versions of our catalogues are placed at Publishing house “Foreign Trade” web-site www.beltrade.by, which will continuously extend likewise it’ll be constantly renewed and improved. We work on the English version of the web-site as well.
Foreign trade sphere is so broad and multi-sided that it’s impossible to arrange all the useful and necessary information for readers on one, even the greatest Internet portal. But using our links visitors can get various and ample information about Belarus, its economy, legislature, people, etc.
Publishing house “Foreign Trade” was registered in September 2004. Doubtlessly, a lot of work still has to be done, including improvement of the Internet-service. We hope it’ll contribute to the establishment of profitable and mutually advantageous contacts between Belarusian and foreign companies. We also wait for your remarks and suggestions on the web-site functioning. Your constructive participation could support You and other users in finding business partners quicker, in getting better understanding of Belarus, its potential and in outlining a range of possibilities for business cooperation.
The team of Publishing house “Foreign Trade” are aimed at success.
